Class Act monthly gigs


Monthly gigs in collaboration with Port Phillip EcoCentre Inc.


St Kilda Music & Poetry Inc. monthly events ‘Class Act’ commenced in February 2007, running on the first Sunday of each month 3:15 - 5:15 pm from March to Nov.

Supported by the City of Port Phillip via the Cultural Development Fund.

Venue: EcoHouse, Blessington St, (cnr Herbert St, in the Botanical Gardens), St Kilda.

Accessible by trams 16 and 96.

Wheelchair access

Entry: $5 conc./child, $7 (includes vegetarian snacks, coffee, tea)

SEPTEMBER CONCERT Poetry: SALLY SPALDING presents selections from the work of Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath, and reads from her own writing. Acoustic guitar and songs: NINA NICOLS. Young musicians - contemporary acoustic: Songs with MIA KENNETT and STEVEN SOCHA on guitar. Haiku and short poems: LORIN FORD, LEON SHANN. New work: THE WISHING WELL BAND celebrate the launch of their remarkable first CD Life On The Border, recorded and released independently in March 2008. Poetry: LIA HILLS presents selections from the poets Apollinaire, Paul Eluard and Pierre Alferi, whose work she has been translating. She reads her own work and talks about her experiences and inspirations as a bilingual poet.

Acoustic guitar & songs: Tim McCarthy.

Poetry feature: Tang Yi presents Mandarin classical poetry in translation, and her own work. Born in Shanghai, Tang Yi came to Australia in 2006 from China, after she received her BA in Chinese Language and Literature. Her work reflects both her Chinese cultural tradition and the influence of poetry written in the English-speaking world. Her poems are published in Australia, China and Hong Kong. In 2007 Tang Yi received the H.B. Higgins Award, which posts her to Hong Kong University for poetry research later this year.
